Dr. Heather Culbertson

Please visit my new lab website: HaRVI Lab.

I am currently an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at the University of Southern California. My research focuses on the design and control of haptic devices and rendering systems, human-robot interaction, and virtual reality. Particularly I am interested in creating haptic interactions that are natural and realistically mimic the touch sensations experienced during interactions with the physical world.

Previously, I was a postdoctoral researcher in the Collaborative Haptics and Robotics in Medicine (CHARM) Lab in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University. I completed my PhD in 2015 at the University of Pennsylvania where I worked on data-driven modeling and rendering highly realistic haptic virtual surfaces.

Please contact me if you are interested in PhD student or visiting researcher positions.

UPDATES

My research has recently been featured in a New Yorker article on the sense of touch titled "Feel me: what the new science of touch says about ourselves".
